Get Out of Jail Free

Paris Hilton (against all odds and direct orders from the judge) is out of jail after spending 3 day at Hard Labor (ha).  I feel sorry for her, but not Al Sharpton.  He is already out there turning it into a racial issue.

He says she got out because she was white and rich.  He has been lamenting the time he was incarcerated because of a protest sit in and he went on a Hunger Strike.  The jailers sent Doctors in every day because of risks to his health, but he complains that they didn’t let him out for medical reasons. He says if she was a white coal miner’s daughter or a rich Hip Hop star she would still be in jail.  I wonder if it is possible that Rev. Sharpton has never heard of R. Kelly or is just lying for the dramatic effect and the opportunity to be racially divisive.

Rumor has it that the reason J. Jackson hasn’t weighed in on this yet is because he is negotiating with Hilton Hotels over a possible shakedown (I mean) boycott.

UPDATE 6/8/07 12:47AM: In late breaking new from AP after midnight on Friday morning the judge that put Paris Hilton in jail has ordered her back to court Friday morning to decide if she should go back behind bars.   Note the excerpts from the AP story below (this should make Rev. Sharpton happy and deflate Jesse’s hopes for a new Rainbow/Push sponsor):

Hours after she was sent home under house arrest Thursday for an undisclosed medical condition, the judge who put her in jail for violating her reckless-driving probation ordered her into court to decide if she should go back behind bars.

It is the city attorney’s position that the decision on whether or not Ms. Hilton should be released early and placed on electronic monitoring should be made by Judge Sauer and not the Sheriff’s Department,” said Jeffrey Isaacs of the city attorney’s office.

Hilton must report to court at 9 a.m. Friday, Superior Court spokesman Allan Parachini told The Associated Press.

“My understanding is she will be brought in a sheriff’s vehicle from her home,” Parachini said.

UPDATE 6/8/07 3:21 PM: This is something, Paris Hilton was sent back to jail and according to the AP report below must spend the ENTIRE 45 days.  This little furlough at home looks like it may have cost her another 20 days.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Paris Hilton was taken from a courtroom screaming and crying Friday seconds after a judge ordered her returned to jail to serve out her entire 45-day sentence for a parole violation in a reckless driving case.

What about OJ Simpson? Clearly, one can be rich and black and not go to jail for heinous crimes.

theo….execllent observation, maybe OJ isn’t so rich any longer with that $10MM legal bill. …. steve

I don’t think this is cause for a racial issue b/c like briget said… OJ! But i do think it is suspicious that she is out whether a reacial reason or not.

MZ, definitely because she is rich and influential. Don’t see a racial connection here except by those that profit from it…..dad

I think it is because she must be from that other American that Edwards was always talking about. 🙂

Wy, Two Americas, definitely we know which one she (and Edwards) are both from…..steve

Al Sharpton Is Right About Paris Hilton
    Thursday, June 07, 2007
    By John Gibson

    Al Sharpton is right.

Today when Paris Hilton got sprung from jail 20 days early — from a sentence that was just half of what was originally imposed — the story turned out to be that Paris’ shrink went to the jailers and said she was about to have a nervous breakdown. So they let her go home early with an ankle bracelet. Sharpton immediately said there may have been racism involved here.

Look, when he’s right he’s right. No matter what you think of Rev. Al, it is hard to imagine that anywhere in America a black woman is getting out of jail today because her shrink says she’s about to have a nervous breakdown. He says it wouldn’t happen, and I agree.

It shouldn’t happen either. It shouldn’t happen with “little miss just anybody,” whether she’s African-American or white or Asian or Hispanic or anything. And it shouldn’t have happened with Paris Hilton.

Was it because she’s white? Maybe a bit, but more likely it happened because she’s rich and her parents can make lawyers and shrinks work round the clock to move mountains. In fact, when this little rich white girl gets her way by throwing a hissy fit it illustrates that celebrities and rich people can make things happen that others cannot.

During the O.J. trail we used to say it wasn’t so much black and white in play but green. O.J. had money, so he could hire the best and fight back. Many white people have that advantage, while with African-Americans, not so much.

Somewhere in America there must be a young African-American girl in jail who should get what Paris Hilton got today: a pass. Is it going to happen? Unless she’s got a rich daddy and a high-priced shrink and a slick lawyer, probably not.

I don’t know if I’d call that situation racism per se, but it is rich white privilege in action, that is for sure. So give Rev. Al one. He’s right about this.

I didn’t realize this was about Bush. Are we using the Paris situation to go after Bush?
That’s neat… You’ll need to get over it.

Everytime the “race” card is pulled by a person from ethnic origin, (in my opinion) they are the ones opressing themselves. It is so obvious that we are the minority and that for the most part, race is a card you can play, not fold with.

Misi……….I agree, to claim such injury when it is obviously not present is to really hurt the legitimate complaints that arrise. It is sort of like crying wolf……….. steve

Hope Paris doesn’t emerge from the big house a hardened con.

plodon, she will probably emerge as a “political activist” with a cause celeb (no pun intended) for prisioner’s rights….. steve

    Hi Steve,
It’s obviously not about race, but about hair color. The prosecutor and the judge have a bet going on what Paris’ natural hair color is.
    the Grit

Hi Grit……..did you like that part that she didn’t eat or drink for 3 days on the first jail stint so the guards couldn’t take a cell phone pic of her on the crapper? …… steve
